www.tessera.com - Tessera Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:TSRA), a provider of transformational technologies that enable innovation in next-generation electronics, today announced that its OptiML(TM) wafer-level camera (WLC) technology was named by R&D Magazine as one of the year's most significant innovations.

"Tessera has a history of innovation, as recognized by two earlier R&D 100 Awards (the uZ(R) Fold-Over package in 2003

and the uBGA(R) packaging technology for multi-chip modules in 1993) which recognized our packaging technology. It is therefore very satisfying that R&D Magazine has now honored our advanced wafer-level camera solution as one of the 100 most novel technologies of 2008," said Michael Bereziuk, executive vice president, Imaging and Optics, Tessera. "This third award for our OptiML WLC technology further validates the market appeal of our wafer-level optics portfolio."

OptiML WLC technology helps advance the integration of miniaturized cameras in cell phones, personal computers, security cameras and other camera-enabled devices. It enables cameras to be manufactured at the wafer level, which reduces total cost and camera module size by up to 50 percent over conventional modules used in today's cell phone cameras.

This is the third award win for Tessera's OptiML WLC technology, which was introduced in 2007. It was named a "Product of the Year" of 2007 by Electronic Products magazine, and honored by Advanced Packaging magazine in the Novel Package Design category of its annual Advanced Packaging Awards in July 2008.

The 2008 R&D 100 Awards, commonly known as "the Oscars of Invention," showcase the most important new technologies commercialized worldwide.

About the R&D 100 Awards

Established by the editors of R&D Magazine, the R&D 100 Awards have been helping companies provide the important initial push a new product needs to compete successfully in the marketplace. The winning of an R&D 100 Award provides a mark of excellence known to industry, government, and academia as proof that the product is one of the most innovative ideas of the year.
