2013-10-22 07:09:17 - Despite winning just one game so far this season, the Temple Owls have a key college football trend for their game against the SMU Mustangs
In its American Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday against the SMU Mustangs, the Temple Owls have recent history in the team’s favor, based on sports handicapping research from the Vegas Experts website.
Vegas Experts looked at how the Owls did in the role of a double-digit underdog, since they are currently getting 11 points from oddsmakers). What it found was that Temple has beaten the Las Vegas betting line in eight of the last ten games dating back to the 2007 college football season. In something of an irony, Temple has lost all but one of those ten contests.
The website also noted that the trend has come and gone in surges over the past seven seasons. In 2007, all four of
the games under these parameters went in favor of the Owls, but over the next five seasons, there were only four instances of these circumstances surfacing again, splitting four games.
During the 2013 college football campaign, Temple has covered the Las Vegas betting line twice in this role. The first time came in the season opener at Notre Dame, when the Owls won for bettors as a 27.5-point underdog in a 28-6 defeat. On October 11, Temple lost 38-20 at Cincinnati, but beat the pointspread of 20.5.
One other trend of note pertaining to the Owls pertains to the total for the game, which at this time has not been posted. In seven of the 10 games noted above the correct wager for bettors has been to go below the total.
