Despite a poor won-loss record over an extended period of time, the Temple Owls have been one the better college football teams when it comes to certain aspects of sports handicapping, according to the Vegas Experts website.
The website’s research focused on when the Owls were tabbed as a double-digit underdog by oddsmakers, since the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are currently 13-point favorites to defeat Temple this Saturday.
One of the key bits of data discovered by the website is that since the 2007 season, the team’s record against the Las Vegas betting line is a strong 11-3 mark when getting 10 points or more from oddsmakers. Those numbers are in complete contrast to the team’s overall mark in those games, which consists
of one outright victory and 13 losses.
The bulk of those games considered have come in two seasons: 2007 and the current 2013 campaign, with a combined 10 matchups taking place during those two seasons. In 2007, the Owls managed to put together a 5-1 record as an underdog against a pointspread of 10 points, including an outright win against the Akron Zips.
This season, Temple has come upon this trend on four occasions, with each game ending in a victory against the Las Vegas betting line. Covers against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Cincinnati Bearcats, and last week’s matchup against the SMU Mustangs came on the road, while a 30-7 loss as a 33-point home underdog came against the Louisville Cardinals.
