Telx, the interconnection company, announced today that it has partnered with the Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) to install a new F-root nameserver in Telx's co-location and interconnection facility at 56 Marietta Street in Atlanta, Ga. The new F-root nameserver helps improve Internet response times for customers connected to the Telx Internet Exchange (TIE) service in Atlanta. This applies to both

voice and data traffic flowing through 56 Marietta, either directly or through an Internet carrier. This also helps reduce the vulnerability of the Internet root name system to cyber attacks by adding another layer of redundancy to the F-root nameserver system. There are now 46 F-root nameservers located around the globe. The one in 56 Marietta is the only F-root nameserver located in the southeastern United States.

"Deploying an F-root nameserver within Telx's Atlanta facility was a strategic business move for ISC, as it allows us to increase the resilience of the Internet in the Atlanta area and our geographical diversity across the US," Paul Vixie, President of ISC. "Telx was key to our success in this implementation: the company was easy to do business with and their location was a prime place to house a new F-root nameserver to enhance Internet service to the southeastern United States.

The F-root nameserver is one of thirteen root nameservers that holds a list of all top-level domain names and supplies these names to Internet routers in order to move traffic around the Internet. The Internet routing system uses the nearest root nameserver list to update routing tables that are used to determine where IP packets should be directed based on current traffic patterns, critical outages, and other similar criteria.

"This F-root installation marks a milestone for the Telx Internet Exchange that is housed in 56 Marietta," said Tesh Durvasula, Chief Marketing and Business Officer for Telx. "By adding a root nameserver to the exchange, we help ensure the reliability of Internet services for participating members of our Internet Exchange. It also confirms our commitment to supporting critical infrastructure elements of the Internet.?
