2009-11-10 18:32:51 - Significant customer wins endorse collaboration with automated data backup and CCTV solutions.

Dortmund, Germany, (November 10, 2009): Tandberg Data, the global supplier of data protection solutions, today announced that it has signed an important partnership agreement with security provider, ClearView Communications, where data protection solutions from Tandberg Data will form the backbone for automatically capturing data intensive CCTV imagery across important public and private sector installations throughout the UK.

At the heart of

the partnership is the drive to increase the length of time that CCTV footage is stored and also to increase the number of images per second that are stored (from 6 images per second to 25 images per second in some installations.)

Paul Main, Sales Director for ClearView Communications, takes up the story. “The need for organisations to store more data for increasing lengths of time is symptomatic of our litigious society where CCTV is being used as a method of maintaining records for legal, insurance, financial or health and safety purposes. The new Shard Building in London Bridge is a classic example. The 87 floor building, currently under construction for completion in 2012, is set to become the capital’s tallest landmark, and the constructors, Mace Construction, use high density image per second CCTV to record deliveries, track site progress and contractor activity to over 12 CCTV stations generating over 4.8TB of data per month. All this data is backed up on Tandberg Data LTO-4 tape cartridges and secured offsite in a disaster recovery centre for 7 years.”

Gary Preston, UK Sales Director for Tandberg Data, commented. “Customers who require reliable and clear CCTV footage are looking for high capacity, encrypted technology to secure their assets. With Tandberg Data’s LTO-4 tape hardware and media, they are receiving this and at a low cost per Gigabyte (3p per GB as compared to 21p per GB for disk). If you calculate how much CCTV data is being stored and for how long, this can amount to significant savings. Prior to the advent of LTO-4 tape technology, users simply had to add more hard disks to extend the recording duration. Now they have a cost-effective, securely encrypted alternative.”

The partnership between the two companies also includes the ENDURANCE monitoring system which archives CCTV recordings from analogue or IP cameras onto tape. Through this system recordings are initially stored on disk across a 30-day access period and then automatically moved off onto the Tandberg Data StorageLibrary T40, that uses LTO-4 tape, one cartridge of which can hold a staggering 800GB of uncompressed data. The beauty of this archiving system is that the Tandberg Data StorageLibrary T40 can hold up to 182TB of data without requiring any human intervention. Data can then be archived on or offsite and easily located and accessed within minutes due to the barcode indexing.

The ENDURANCE system has seen acceptance throughout Europe with some extremely high security applications within both public and private sectors, with one client alone rolling out to 150 locations.
