Talon Composites, a wholly owned subsidiary of RAC Corporation and a manufacturer of proprietary metal matrix composites, announced today that it is in the final stages of expanding its manufacturing capabilities in North America. Talon also announced that it has completed shipment of its Talbor Metal Matrix Material to British Nuclear Fuels PLC (BNFL). The shipment of this proprietary material

represents the successful completion of the final phase of manufacture of this highly-specialized neutron absorption material. Talon's proprietary technology is used to make shielding plates that achieve high neutron absorption utilizing a very fine grain structure and greater homogeneous disbursement of Boron, which enables BNFL to implement safer and more effective fuel transport strategies.

The relationship between Talon Composites and BNFL was formalized in December, 2003. For 5 years, Talon's research team has been focusing on the unique challenges inherent in the transport of spent nuclear fuel. Furthermore, Talon Composites has recently received two additional patents for its method in the manufacture of its Talbor Metal Matrix composite.

Talon President Robin A. Carden remarked, "We continue to broaden our intellectual property through new patents and for the first time ever, the Talon team has produced, and delivered, a metal matrix plate that couples high strength characteristics with superior neutron attenuation." Carden added, "We have been also aggressively seeking to expand our manufacturing capabilities in North America. We are in the final stages of finalizing a venture with a strategic partner that would greatly expand our product lines."

Talon Composites produces and markets a range of high performance advanced metal matrix material ("MMC") products utilizing Talon's own proprietary technology under the name of TalborĀ®. The MMC's consist of aluminum and boron carbide and are supplied primarily to the nuclear waste and nuclear transportation industries for neutron absorption applications. Talon's process results in the boron carbide being dispersed evenly throughout the composite, making it particularly suitable to the nuclear industry. The fine grain structure of TalborĀ® substantially boosts performance in wet and dry nuclear storage and transportation applications. Additionally, Talon Composites materials can be used in a wide variety of homeland security applications, Automotive & Electronic products, as well as in high-performance sporting goods.
