2013-03-10 06:52:24 - Executive Chef Youssef Darwish yet again led his team of chefs to an impressive showing at the Emirates International Salon Culinaire, which took place recently as part of Gulf Food 2013.

With fierce competition from more than 1,300 chefs, the Taj Palace Dubai participants entered dishes in 12 categories, and walked away with five medals and six merit awards, reflecting the range of cuisines and culinary skills on offer at the Deira hotel.

In the live cooking categories, a silver medal was awarded for the hotel’s Arabic Mezze selection, while Seafood and Beef dishes won merits. The chefs’ skill with regional delicacies was underscored with another Bronze medal in the Arabic Feast category, while a further bronze medal was awarded for their Four-Course Vegetarian selection.

Rounding off the medals were silver for Tapas and Finger Food plus a bronze for Breads, while merits were given to Taj Palace Dubai chefs for their work

on a Pastry Showpiece, Fruit and Vegetable Carving, Five-Course Gourmet selection and an Open Showpiece of intricate design featuring a pair of Arabian leopards.

According to Chef Youssef, the range of awards was a tribute to the extent of the kitchen skills at the hotel: “I am delighted with the performance of our chefs in what was an extremely demanding competition where rivalry was high,” he said.
