The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Google announced the signing of a “Free Try-out Plan of Google’s Keyword Advertisements for Taiwantrade Members” on October 28, 2009. According to this Plan, Google will provide US$6.6 million worth of keyword ad spaces free of charge to Taiwan’s small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs), assist Taiwantrade members to establish Google AdWords accounts, and offer suggestions on optimizing keywords and Internet marketing strategies. This Plan is estimated to benefit more than 6,000 Taiwanese SMEs.
President & CEO of TAITRA, Mr. Yuen-chuan Chao expressed in the signing ceremony that this collaborative effort in fact started since June 2006 when TAITRA first began to promote Taiwantrade (Taiwan’s national business-to-business e-portal) and the website of Taipei Trade
Shows through Google’s keyword ads. The two keywords or websites have by now been exposed more than 2 billion times online globally. The cooperation this time is actually to raise further the efficacy of the “New Zheng He Plan” launched by Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs last year by combining more effectively the resources of actual trade exhibitions with virtual Internet marketing, to invigorate Taiwan’s export trade more.
Google’s Managing Director of Taiwan, Mr. Lee-Feng Chien pointed out that through the advantages of Google’s global platform and network broadcasting, which reach 75% of unrepeated Internet users worldwide in over 40 languages, Taiwan’s SMEs will be marketed to more than 100 countries and regions all over the world. The growth rate of Google AdWords in Taiwan will also become number one in Asia. At the same time, via Google ads platform, certain market’s acceptance level and customer responses can be more simply understood. As a result, precise customer groups can be more easily identified to expose brand names.
Taiwan’s Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute surveyed in January 2009 that the percentage of Taiwan’s numerous SMEs and online stores which in 2008 planned to develop overseas markets is as high as 46%.
18.2% indicates that they have already begun business operations, and those are planning to get into transnational business before 2010 occupy 19.9%.
