2009-06-21 17:07:46 - News website claims "Gans death coverup"

LAS VEGAS (SPPR) - While the Las Vegas news media has moved on from coverage of the May 1st overdose death of Strip entertainer Danny Gans, a lone Internet news site has kept up the drumbeat of coverage that includes breaking news and a devastating criticism of local media figures, operations and institutions.

"TabloidBaby.com began covering the story within hours of the announcement of Gans' death," said Tabloid Baby associate Sam Peters. Its editor was most concerned with the fact that no facts were forthcoming. In the days to follow, the Las Vegas media establishment indicated that they were waiting for the coroner's official toxicology report to make their move.

"Yet, when the report was released, to great criticism and controversy, the

local media moved on without digging deeper. TabloidBaby.com won't let go. The news team there wants justice for this legendary entertainer, and justice will be denied until all the facts are on the table."

TabloidBaby.com was the first to report that Gans was a suspected user of steroids, that reporters and editors at the Las Vegas Review-Journal were withholding information that Gans had died of an overdose of painkillers, and that certain media and entertainment figures, including New York Times stringer Steve Friess, were involved in attempts to cloud and cover up the cause of Dans' death.

Clark County Coroner Michael Murphy announced on June 9th that Gans had died from a toxic reaction to the powerful opiate hydromorphone, also known as Dilaudid or "drug store heroin."

He refused to divulge any other details, including what other drugs Gans may have been taking, citing confidentiality.

Despite Gans' impact as an economic and religious force in Las Vegas, the local news media have not dug into his possible secret life.
