2013-01-23 12:31:53 - Petroleum and petrochemical provider PTT is reaping the benefits of the Atlas lab scale chemistry reactor system from Syrris, simplifying the production of catalysts for polyolefins.
Supabhorn Khaubunsongserm, a researcher in the process technology research department, explained: “We synthesize catalysts for the production of polyolefins such as polyethylene and polypropylene, and test the polymerization in slurry and gas phase processes. To help with this work, we have invested in Atlas modular products, which are very adaptable and can form a wide range of chemical reactors. We run two Atlas 3 bar reactor systems in parallel, and can quickly and easily configure the reactors for advanced applications such as calorimetry and crystallization control. The whole system is controlled by the intuitive Atlas Parallel Software, which automatically detects which apparatus is connected.”
“Syrris offers a variety of different vessels – including triple-jacketed vessels and round bottom flasks –
which makes it easy to scale up reactions. Our Atlas reactors are in use every working day, and the system is very reliable. It offers great reproducibility, and its glass jacketed reactors allow us to follow both the polymerization reaction and the synthesis process. We also receive good support from both Sithiphorn, our local distributor, and Syrris, which we really appreciate; they always care about the little things that are important to the customer, and work with them to meet the specific demands of their applications.”
Syrris is world renowned for excellence in chemical reactor systems and is a world leader in flow chemistry systems. Established in 2001, Syrris employs over 30 scientists and engineers at its facility in Royston (near Cambridge, UK) and has offices in the US, Japan, India and Brazil plus over 30 distributors worldwide.
Syrris develops laboratory automation products for research and development chemists in industries such as pharma, petrochem, agrochem, fine chemical synthesis etc. as well as academia. Syrris products are used in a wide variety of applications and laboratories including process, discovery, crystallization, process safety, scale-up and many more.
Syrris products include the innovative range of fully automated batch reactor products (Atlas), a manually operated jacketed reactor platform (Globe) and flow chemistry systems (Asia and Africa). In recognition of its technological achievements, Syrris has been awarded the “Eastern Region’s UKTI Best Established Exporter” and the “Most Outstanding Export Achievement” at the Global Opportunity Conference on International Trade. Syrris’ Asia Flow Chemistry system was the recipient of a prestigious 2012 R&D award.
