Microscopic intervention with Scopis Navigation system
Microscopic intervention with Scopis Navigation system
2013-02-06 15:51:54 - Surgical navigation by Scopis offers all benefits of navigation systems also with microscopic interventions.

After extensive tests of compatibility with microscopes of different manufacturers, the advantages of surgical navigation by Scopis can be used also for microscopic interventions, for example in case of surgical interventions at the petrous part of the temporal bone. Due to additional orientation, Scopis navigation systems improve safety of the microscopic intervention and allow for the precise localization of structures and target points. The use of navigation systems is indicated for microscopic surgery of the lateral skull base, the maxillary sinus and paranasal sinuses.

Scopis Augmented Reality in microscopy

Scopis navigation systems make it possible to show the microscopic video directly next to the navigation information. Furthermore, with an optional image overlay in the ocular lens, the surgeon can see the navigation

information without moving the sight from the microscope to the monitor. All necessary information is in the visual field of the surgeon at the same time.
As market leader for endoscopic Augmented Reality, Scopis also offers the overlay of navigation information over the microscope. Thereby, for example shapes of a tumor can be marked in the image.

Surgical navigation by Scopis – compatibility with microscopes of different manufacturers

The connection and integration of the navigation system in microscopic interventions is basically supported by various manufacturers.
Scopis navigation systems are characterized by high flexibility also in combination with microscopes. Navigation system and 3D camera can be positioned in the operating theatre in any order. Also during surgery they can be repositioned without loss of accuracy.
By means of universal instrument adapters, all instruments coming into consideration for a microscopic intervention can be integrated into the navigation. In contrast to electro-magnetic navigation systems, the use of Scopis navigation systems is also compatible to the use of speculum and speculum holder. As an optic navigation system, it generally offers higher accuracy.
