Stralfors UK, the information transfer specialists, has won the much coveted Environment Award at this year's BPIF (British Printing Industries Federation) PrintingWorld Excellence Awards. The prestigious awards recognise excellence within the printing industry and contribution to improving industry standards. Stralfors UK won the Environment Award, having successfully demonstrated its ongoing commitment to reducing the impact of its business through a range of proactive initiatives. The judges were particularly impressed with Stralfors UK's investment in the installation of an intelligent lighting system in their warehouse. The system incorporates a daylight dimming function that reacts to the natural light available and
automatically adjusts each of the 67 lighting units accordingly. The system has helped Stralfors UK save £11K per annum and has reduced the business' CO2 emissions by 57770 KG per annum.
The simplicity and effectiveness of many of Stralfors UK's energy saving initiatives were praised by the judges. For example, the grey water recovery system that collects rainwater from the factory roof and uses it for toilet flushes saves the company 40,000 litres of water every year.
Stalfors UK's commitment to reducing the impact of its operations on the local surroundings was also highly commended. Notable policies include restricting deliveries and waste sorting to certain times, providing additional sound proofing and specifically designing its main factory in Redruth, Cornwall to meet the company's strict environmental guidelines.
Rob Norwell, Quality and Environment Manager said: 'We take our social responsibilities extremely seriously and this award recognises our ongoing investment to reduce our environmental impact. It's a credit to all our staff who have embraced these policies and have
worked hard to incorporate these changes into their working day. This award highlights how many small changes can make a big difference. Stralfors UK will continue to identify further energy saving opportunities in order to make our business as environmentally friendly as possible."
John Carter, Group Managing Director, Stralfors UK adds: "This prestigious award and our recent achievement of the ISO27001 certification, demonstrates to both existing and prospective customers that Stralfors is positioned as a leading service provider for secure transactional mail applications and is a good business partner."
Success at this year's BPIF PrintingWorld Excellence Awards is the latest accolade for Stralfors UK's environmental policies and practices. Stralfors UK won the Large Business category at the Cornwall Sustainability Awards in December 2007.
