Ageing rocker ROD STEWART missed out on the opportunity to star alongside some of his soccer heroes when he turned down a role in ESCAPE TO VICTORY.
The 1981 film starred SYLVESTER STALLONE and SIR MICHAEL CAINE, alongside sporting legends including Brazilian star PELE and World Cup-winning England captain SIR BOBBY MOORE.
But the MAGGIE MAY singer chose to turn down the acting role to concentrate on his music career because he never harboured any ambitions to make it as a thespian.
Stewart recalls, "The only film I was asked to be in was a soccer movie; a football movie about the Second World War. With Sly Stallone.
"And I was on tour and I couldn't do it. That's the only one."
