2013-10-01 22:43:56 - A brand new Asheville based startup, is marketing themselves as the experts when it comes to "Gear for the Urban Explorer". Looking at their first product, can't say we disagree.
The Pandora Carryall by Bad Wolf Outfitters is offering what none of the other tech bags on the market have offered yet: solar panels for charging gear, ample pocket space for holding gadgets as well as beverages and other essentials, sleek, professional design and an affordable price. Of course there have been other products with some combination of these features--the Voltaic OffGrid backpack, which has powerful solar panels a rugged backpacker/collegiate-style, or the O-RANGE solar messenger bag with its Italian luxury chic in neon colors and a price tag above $400.
But the resounding question remains: why should you drop $100+ on a tricked-out computer bag when phone and laptop chargers can be utilized at any outlet for free?
businessperson, college student or traveler can and often does get by on doing just that: waiting for 30 minutes or an hour in cafes, airport terminals, student centers, or corporate offices charging their phones and computers before having to rush off to class, meetings or other cities. For some, it’s a minor inconvenience to have to wait for their gadgets to charge once and if they've even noticed that they're low on battery.
For the rest of us--the very busy, the very stressed out, the techie or the expert time-manager--the time spent waiting for tech stuff to charge is time that could be spent in the lab, on the road, jumping from interviews to lunch and back, or catching flights and trains to far-flung cities.
The time gained from having a bag that simultaneously carries what you need and charges your gadgets could see an increase in productivity that those waiting around next to wall sockets are missing out on. For others still, a bag as high-tech as their lives can be an essential part of their tech product and accessories collection.
Here’s where The Pandora, the leading project of Bad Wolf Outfitters, comes in. For every possible daily obstacle, the Pandora comes equipped with a highly technological (and covert) solution. For instance, to prevent unexpected power downs, the carryall comes equipped with a back-up battery and a solar panel to revive fading electronics, a secret x-ray resistant compartment (for stashing that underdeveloped film), and a built in speaker for spontaneous celebration.
“All of the options in this bag are for surviving in our modern world. Whether it be hiking, climbing, biking, or even something as simple as what is required of you at your job. This bag is born of necessity, and I hope it fills all the needs of people who need such a thing in their lives."
- Joey DeLoachers, The Pandora Co-Creator
The Pandora is promising in terms of form and design. One of the current prototypes boasts a military-grade Cordura Fabric, making it hardy enough for even the most adventurous professional, and depending on the travel needs of said advent-essional, this carryall will transform from messenger bag to backpack as conveniently as Optimus Prime with the aid of a convertible strap.
Because The Pandora is still in the prototypical phase of production, Bad Wolf Outfitters is offering backers an opportunity no other crowd funding campaign has given--the chance to not only help fund The Pandora, but to customize their ideal carryall (and the price they’d like to pay for it, within reason of course).
“We cannot stress enough how much we want feedback from backers and potential users in order to make The Pandora the highest quality and most ideal “smart” satchel available.”
-Rebecca Chappell, Project Manager
The project is looking to raise a minimum of $25,000 prior to Bad Wolf Outfitters manufacturing of The Pandora. Those investing through the Indiegogo page will be able to pledge anywhere from $5.00 to $1,000, with each pledge level offering some great Bad Wolf Outfitter schwag (pens, stickers, t-shirts, magnets, universal tools, coffee travel mugs, and The Pandora of course!
