MADRID, Spain (AP) - Spanish regional police in the northeastern city of Barcelona on Friday arrested 12 people suspected of manufacturing and dealing in fake doping substances that may have caused the death of a bodybuilder.
The arrests have allowed investigators to break up a doping ring that circulated «falsified doping medication» police said in a statement.
The dead bodybuilder, a 28-year old man, had bought substances from the group, the statement said.
The doping substances, aimed mainly at bodybuilders, were sold for between ¤300-¤500 (US$400-$668) for a 10-week treatment, police said.
One of those arrested had taken part in a recent regional bodybuilding competition as a judge, police said.
