UK expatriate business Orce Serrano Hams are defying the current economic downturn by retailing a range of locally produced Spanish Serrano hams to the UK. Tired of hearing about the 'credit crunch' more often than the weather business owners Iain Macdonald and Gayle Hartley are tackling general food price hikes head on.
Speaking about their range of Spanish hams Iain Macdonald
explained, 'The Serrano ham has been cured in rural Spain for hundreds of years with the primary reason being that it is a highly economical and healthy source of food'
Gayle Hartley continued, 'These hams are now regarded as gourmet but what we are doing is taking the recognition of Spanish ham back to its roots - a ham to be enjoyed and sustain a family in healthy dishes and ingredients, savvy households are taking advantage and doing as the Spanish still do by keeping a full ham.'
Iain continued to explain, 'With the credit crunch apparently in full swing there are people who maybe instead of dining out are purchasing themselves a world famous gourmet ham for enjoying indoors, sales of our local ham are continuing to increase monthly.'
'Hams are extremely economical producing up to 100 servings and last for up to 10 weeks so date is never an issue. All you have to do is compare a 7.5 kilo ham with the rising supermarket prices and it does make a lot of sense - particularly for the summer and seasonal holidays.'
For years Iain and Gayle have been working closely with several producers of ham, in particular their own butchers in Orce village. It is here where the 'credit crunch busting' Serrano hams come from. 7 - 8 kilos with a delivery of just 4 days to the UK means these hams are as authentic as they can be.
