2008-09-02 22:17:47 - Healing arts enthusiasts may choose from one of two New York campus locations (in Rochester or Syracuse) at the Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage (OSTM), where they can participate in schedule-friendly massage therapy training courses -- including a full-time accelerated program (six months), part-time day program (12-18 months), or evening program (17 months).

In OSTM's intensive 1,000-hour massage program, students receive hands-on training in Eastern massage, Swedish massage, hydrotherapy, sports massage, chair massage, pregnancy massage, and energy techniques. Other essential instruction is comprised of studies in anatomy and physiology, myology, neurology, pathology, CPR and first aid, hygiene, and other independent coursework.

One of the many integral components of the massage curriculum at the

Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage is its practical training offered through the student clinic. Furthermore, OSTM extends a number of continuing education classes in orthopedic massage and pain management, pranic healing, foundations of myofascial release, hot stone massage and spa treatments, Chinese hand and foot reflexology (with aromatherapy oils), and cancer massage, among other unique specializations.

Why a career in the healing arts like massage therapy?

As with many allied health occupations, the field of massage therapy is anticipated to grow much faster than other fields. Candidates, who have successfully completed in-depth massage therapy programs like those offered at the Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage (www.spabeautyschools.com/clickcount.php?id=11740798&goto=http%3A ..), have a promising professional outlook. While a number of licensed massage therapists (LMTs) go into private practice as entrepreneurs, many LMTs work in a wide variety of health/wellness settings including hospitals, rehabilitation centers, health resorts, and even aboard cruise liners.

* Tuition payment plans available.
