The Legacy Foundation, the community foundation that serves Lake County, Indiana, the Lake Area United Way, and Foundations of East Chicago, recently joined together in a groundbreaking collaboration to empower communities and schools in Northwest Indiana. The partnership, named the South Shore Connection, is working with nFocus Software :
to implement data-sharing strategies throughout the region. The
South Shore Connection is the first partnership of its kind in the country, linking together multiple cities to promote success for Indiana youth.
The intent of the data-sharing strategy is to address identified challenges and actively work toward successful outcomes for over 22,000 youth in the Gary, Hammond, Lake Station and Merrillville school districts. Multiple social service organizations, including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana, have signed on as community partners. Lincoln Ellis, President of the Clubs, was a catalyst for making the South Shore Connection :

a reality.
“The goal is success for our children, both in their school careers and as future productive adults. The opportunity to share data in a ‘real-time’ environment provides tremendous potential to address these children’s needs,” Ellis noted. “Data sharing of this magnitude will support our communities in being more effective and enhance our ability to make a real difference.”
Ananda Roberts, President of nFocus Software, said, “For the first time in America, multiple cities, funders, school districts and non-profit organizations are coming together to create meaningful change. By using data as a common language, the South Shore Connection is working toward solutions in schools and communities, utilizing a shared framework and collective set of goals and objectives. nFocus Software is honored to be the technology partner in this unparalleled movement for change.”
