In a rare and remarkable gesture by the government of Somaliland Republic yet unrecognised by the international community. A humanitarian initiative to help the current looming and impending crisis in the Republic of Djibouti began with the donation of four thousand sheep.
"Our Donation was greatly accepted" said Somaliland's foreign minister.
The deepening crisis has prompted a joint statement from organisations including
Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) and World Food Program (WFP) warning that ""large areas of the Horn of Africa are facing -- or rapidly sliding into -- a state of humanitarian emergency".
Somaliland has not escaped from current world economic adversaries as its citizens struggle daily although little is compensated by what is sent through remittance banks from overseas Somalis. Not many are lucky and are themselves in urgent need of assistance.
Djibouti is currently bogged down with a tiny and ambiguous war against its neighbour Eritrea who refused the mediation efforts pledged by the African Union. Djibouti's relations with Somaliland has not been acrimonious as it consistently closes Somaliland Consulate offices despite its main source of income generation coming from Somaliland inspired businesses such as travel and logistics.
