www.SoftwareAG.com - Software AG John Conley, +1 571-262-7736 john.conley@softwareag.com Director of Public Relations or Norbert Eder, +49 (0) 6151 92-1146 norbert.eder@softwareag.com Vice President Corporate Communications Software AG, a global leader in business infrastructure software, today announced the availability of webMethods Insight, a new solution for the run-time management of heterogeneous SOA environments.

The release builds upon a new strategic OEM partnership with Progress Software for the Actional(R) line of enterprise-class SOA management products. webMethods Insight provides enterprises with a proven, best-of-breed solution for the monitoring, policy enforcement and provisioning of run-time services. With deep integration with CentraSite(TM), a top-ranked solution for service-oriented architecture (SOA) governance available from Software AG, webMethods Insight helps users optimize service performance across the entire SOA lifecycle.

"With enterprise adoption of SOA moving increasingly to business-critical implementations, architects and application owners require far greater transparency and accountability over their distributed and heterogeneous SOA environments. webMethods Insight addresses these requirements as a means for helping enterprises consistently meet their service consumers' expectations for reliability, performance and availability," said Dr. Peter Kurpick, Chief Product Officer and member of the Executive Management board, Software AG. "webMethods Insight also capitalizes on out-of-the-box, field-tested integration with CentraSite. As a result, service portfolio and change management are greatly simplified as run-time information is automatically populated and updated within CentraSite. This also means that discrepancies, such as unknown services and unauthorized consumers, are more readily identified, investigated and resolved. The addition of webMethods Insight ultimately advances our strategy of providing the industry's most comprehensive, end-to-end SOA infrastructure offering."

webMethods Insight: At-a-Glance

A critical challenge confronting any SOA implementation is the need to manage services within a distributed environment for optimal performance and reliability. Lacking real-time visibility and control over the run-time environment, enterprises often struggle to anticipate operational changes, minimize subsequent disruptions, and ensure full compliance with SOA processes, policies and contracts.

webMethods Insight addresses these requirements by delivering extended visibility and control over distributed SOA landscapes. The minimal overhead required by webMethods Insight ensures more rapid deployment, 'smart' monitoring, and deeper management of the end-to-end SOA landscape. This is in stark contrast with earlier approaches to run-time management, which created additional cost and complexity, constrained run-time performance, and reinforced existing service silos. Integrated analytics within webMethods Insight deliver the critical insight needed to ensure both fault-free and optimal execution of service transactions. Reporting data can be consumed directly within webMethods Insight or published to CentraSite.

Key attributes and features of webMethods Insight include:

-- Extended Service Visibility - Gain real-time insight into service performance; automatically detect invocation patterns and map service dependences; and discover and document ad-hoc business processes requiring formalized management.

-- Centralized Management of Distributed Environments - Manage service-level agreements centrally for consistent, enterprise-wide enforcement; take advantage of real-time metrics to actively manage services and to proactively alert users of pending service-level agreement (SLA) violations; and utilize root-cause analysis to resolve discrepancies faster.

-- Automated Enforcement of Run-time Governance - Implement 'last mile security' so that users cannot bypass defined security, privacy, and regulatory requirements; identify rogue services and bring them into the governance process; and monitor policy-related activities to preempt potential problems.

Developed in partnership with Progress Software, webMethods Insight is a unique configuration of the Actional product line optimized for the demanding requirements of Software AG customers.

CentraSite & webMethods Insight: The Industry's Most Advanced Solution for SOA Lifecycle Management

According to a recent survey conducted by Software AG (Best Practices for SOA Governance User Survey (Summer 2008)), nearly 70% of respondents indicated that each aspect of the service lifecycle - Design-, Run- and Change-time - were of equal importance within the governance process.

Responding to this need, Software AG will be offering webMethods Insight in conjunction with CentraSite as well as on a standalone basis. By combining these complementary products, users can more readily service-enable existing applications and orchestrate services with an enterprise-level SOA while taking full advantage of end-to-end governance to ensure the success of their deployment.

This enhanced solution capitalizes on the certified integration that has already been developed between the two product sets with supported processes including:

-- Rogue services discovered by webMethods Insight are populated directly within the CentraSite registry, triggering relevant design-time policies to ensure service quality. Likewise, run-time metrics analyzed by webMethods Insight are published to the CentraSite repository as well.

-- Service dependencies discovered at run-time by webMethods Insight are published to CentraSite, thus providing automated, on-going and accurate tracking of dependencies for more reliable impact analysis and faster change management.

-- Policy URLs from webMethods Insight are published within CentraSite for centralized administration as are alerts for violating SLA thresholds.

The CentraSite Community: Driving Customer Value

The integration between CentraSite and webMethods Insight underscores the pioneering work being undertaken by the CentraSite Community to ensure full interoperability of systems within a heterogeneous SOA.

The CentraSite Community is a vendor-neutral forum that is sponsored by Software AG and Fujitsu with support from over fifty additional corporate members. Established in 2006, the community brings together both vendors and architects to share best practices, define implementation frameworks and catalogue field-tested integration and deployment models. Building on these partnerships, users can more quickly and confidentially deploy best-of-breed solutions as their end-to-end SOA infrastructure.

"Based on a shared commitment to delivering significant customer value, the CentraSite Community has established itself as a critical forum for advancing SOA adoption," said Ivo Totev, Chief Marketing Officer, Software AG. "By continuing to work closely with all of our community members, we will continue to provide enterprises with maximum flexibility as this is the overall objective for SOA."

Product Availability

webMethods Insight will be available exclusively from Software AG as of October 1, 2008. Pricing is available from an authorized Software AG representative.

In conjunction with this announcement, Software AG is hosting a global customer webinar on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 18:00 CST/17:00 BST/12:00 EDT/9:00 PDT.
