The move, which will take effect from 1 February, will mean the breadth of planning and other associated services available to Smiths Gore clients is increased. Equally existing Hives Planning clients will be able to draw on the extensive range of property consultancy advice available within Smiths Gore, whilst retaining the local personal service and contacts within the Reading team.

The two firms will unite under the Smiths Gore brand and the Reading office will be headed up by Rebecca McAllister, who will join Smiths Gore as a partner.

Rebecca will continue to be supported by a strong team including Mark Schmull and Jo Unsworth and Andrew Docherty who remains as a consultant.

Hives Planning was established in 1988 and offers wide

ranging planning advice to both public and private sector clients across the development industry.

This latest merger will considerably strengthen the resource for property and landowners with planning issues in London and the south east. The office in Reading and its proximity to the development team in London and the planning team in nearby Petworth will enable the management of larger and more complex planning and development projects.

Commenting on the merger Robert Weldon, Head of Development at Smiths Gore and based in London says.

“This complementary merger boosts our national planning resource and we are looking forward to offering a complete planning and development service from both our London and Reading offices. An increased presence in the region will enable the new team to manage larger and more complex projects.”

Rebecca McAllister says.

“This is a very exciting opportunity for us – to expand our planning services alongside those of Smiths Gore colleagues with whom we have worked closely in the past and share common values. Whilst our existing clients will experience seamless continuity, the combined strengths of the practices will enable us to provide a wider range of expertise and support; this will be particularly important as the economy emerges from recession.”
