Smith International, Inc. (NYSE: SII) announces drilling optimization solutions for Comstock Resources (NYSE: CRK) result in their first well with less than 30 day drilling time in the Haynesville shale gas play.

Comstock Resources also realized a total drilling time reduction of more than 20% over a three well drilling program.

The integration of Smith value added services, including i-DRILL, Smith's advanced drilling simulation technology, and PathFinder's

drilling optimization team, resulted in innovative drilling solution recommendations in coordination with the expertise of the Comstock Resources Drilling Team. PathFinder is Smith’s directional drilling and formation evaluation services company, acquired last year as part of the W-H Energy Services merger.

The continued efficiency gains from this potent combination of talent and technology is reducing the cost associated with hydrocarbon extraction in the major Haynesville shale gas field, encouraging drilling activity. This capability to partner with leading oil producers to reduce extraction costs promises to consistently place Smith International and Comstock Resources at the forefront of drilling activity in this and other emerging markets.
