LJUBLJANA, Slovenia (AP) - Slovenian police have arrested a Croatian man carrying hand grenades, saying he wanted to assassinate a senior politician from Slovenia because of the country's stance against EU membership for Croatia.
Police chief Janko Gorsek said Saturday the 59-year-old man was caught on a train Friday night during a routine border check.
Gorsek says the man was going to attempt to set off the five grenades in front of a government building in Ljubljana as a prominent politician passed by. Police did not say if the man had a specific target and stepped up security for senior officials.

Tensions between the two countries have been high since December, when Slovenia blocked Croatia's EU negotiations over a border dispute.
