Siren.fm launches an ingenuitive approach to streaming music.

New service aims to open the market by bypassing major labels.

Houston, Texas – A new streaming music service, Siren (www.siren.fm), is launching this week across the nation. The new service hopes to bring a fresh approach to this already fiercely competitive market and avoid the financial pitfalls of the current players in the field.

“There just isn’t any music service out there with a good business plan, and none of them are fair to musicians,” says co-founder Jacob Terry. “Right now it seems like everybody wants a piece of the action in

this business, but nobody wants to risk sticking their neck out and trying something new.”

Most offerings in the streaming music space are competing to see who can amass the largest catalog of popular music while burning through venture capitalist money at a terrifying rate. Siren plans to take a different approach. Rather than breaking the bank to make the major labels happy, Siren wants to create a venue for musicians who own their own music to come and go as they please.

“All of the competition claims to be making things fair for musicians, but really they are playing right in to the same old song and dance with the labels,” Terry claims. Indeed, many artists have voiced their concerns over royalties from Spotify, which mostly end up going to labels, and Pandora is currently lobbying Congress in an effort to pay even less than they already do.

Siren plans to work with up and coming musicians that have not yet signed their rights away to a record label, and therefore still own their own music. These musicians are free to do as they please with their music, without having to deal with pick-pocketing labels and royalty collection agencies. The idea is that the next Lady GaGa, Jay-Z, or Metallica is out there right now, and potentially could get their big break on Siren.

The question on everyone’s mind is, of course, how much this service will cost. Siren plans on departing further from competitors by offering their service free of charge to listeners and musicians. A combination of audio commercials and visual ads will support the service and musicians will receive payment based on a fair percentage of these revenue streams. You won’t find Siren asking for a monthly membership fee or capping your usage after a week or two.
