2008-10-07 23:27:48 - SIGVARIS North America has developed an educational video to help medical product retailers and health professionals advance their patients' and consumers' knowledge of compression therapy in the treatment of venous disease.

SIGVARIS North America premiered a new medical education video today that teaches viewers about venous disease and ways that compression therapy helps people who are suffering from vein health issues (i.e.Chronic Venous Insufficiency, varicose veins, spider veins, Deep Vein Thrombosis, swollen ankles, and leg pain).

Scenes include a pregnant woman who suffers from swollen ankles, a business traveler who is

concerned about the long time she spends in flight, and a repairman who stands for long periods of time at work.

You can view the SIGVARIS Life for Legs video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nrUNmFtCAo.

'The people in this video suffer from daily aches and pains related to everyday circumstances and conditions that, left untreated, could develop into more serious conditions such as Chronic Vein Insufficiency or Deep Vein Thrombosis. It's a wonderful tool for teaching consumers and patients how a simple change of socks can improve their health,' said Judith Brannan, Education Manager for SIGVARIS North America.

SIGVARIS offers this video free of charge to all medical professionals and retailers, with the goal of building awareness of compression therapy as a therapeutic treatment for venous disease, and is also available with English, Spanish, and French subtitles.

Through this initiative, SIGVARIS also is supporting the Acting US Surgeon General Steven K. Galson, M.D., M.P.H., recent Call to Action to reduce the number of cases of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism in the United States. Galson urged all Americans to learn about and prevent these treatable conditions.

Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism affect an estimated 350,000 to 600,000 Americans each year. Together, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism contribute to at least 100,000 deaths each year.
