SHPE Successfully Drew Thousands to Fort Worth, Texas Largest Hispanic Technical Conference Focused on Solving the STEM Crisis

INDUSTRY, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/04/12 -- The Society of Professional Hispanic Engineers (SHPE), the leading national organization aimed at motivating Hispanics to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), hosted a successful conference last month drawing more than 4,500 people into Fort Worth, Texas.

The four-day event took place November 14-17, and successfully achieved

  • Bringing together 1,200 middle and high school students to the University of Texas at Dallas for an all-day College Symposia event

  • Introducing nearly 3,000 college students to Fortune 500 companies at the annual Career Fair. More than 220 companies were present at the Career Fair Expo to recruit Hispanic talent for STEM related jobs and internships.

  • Launching for the first time a leading industry study, prepared by the American Petroleum Institute, providing an employment outlook for African American and Latinos in the Upstream Oil and Natural Gas industry. The study revealed thousands of available jobs due to the accelerated development of U.S. oil and natural gas resources.

  • Hosting an executive roundtable with CEOs and industry leaders on solutions to placing more Hispanic talent into the STEM workforce.

  • Offering technical workshops for professionals and students, networking events, motivational luncheons and seminars to arm college students with professional life skills.
