Former STAR TREK star WILLIAM SHATNER wants to spread peace in the Middle East, using horses.
The actor is trying to raise $10 million (£5.5 million) to set up 30 'therapeutic riding' programs in Israel.
He wants the centres to be used by disabled children of all nationalities and religions, and claims horse-riding is proven to boost the conditions of those with physical and mental disabilities.
Speaking in Israel today (29MAY06), Shatner says, "We know that the use of a horse in their therapy takes them beyond their handicapped body, their injured body, and into another area of health." Shatner - a long term patron of Ahead for Horses, a Los Angeles-based charity that works with disabled children - insists the project will bring together all citizens of Israel as well as Palestinians, Jordanians and Egyptians.
