- Southern Governors' Association Charlotte S. Cole, Director of Communications and Marketing, 202-624-5431 charlottecole@sso.org Southern Governors' Association (SGA) will hold its 74th Annual Meeting, hosted by West Virginia Governor and SGA Chairman Joe Manchin III, at The Greenbrier (White Sulphur Springs), West Virginia, from August 8 - 11. Ten of the region's 18 member governors currently are registered

to attend.

On Saturday, August 9, U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao will provide keynote remarks to open a roundtable discussion on Issues Impacting Workforce Development in the South. Presiding over America's fastest-growing and rapidly-changing region, Southern governors are committed to making the investments and policy decisions required to support the availability of a highly skilled workforce in their respective states, as well as the region. This session will bring together governors, their cabinet officials and representatives from a wide range of industry sectors to identify key issues affecting workforce development programs and propose possible solutions.

On Sunday, August 10, governors will participate in Governors in Action: Innovations and Trends. Southern governors are at the forefront of identifying innovative ways to address a variety of practical and policy challenges. By looking to the ideas and approaches adopted by their peers, governors can avoid "reinventing the wheel," share the details of how they were able to achieve various policy successes, and identify areas that they may wish to collaborate on more extensively in the future. Private sector leaders also will participate in this session to offer their experiences and observations in the execution of successful public/private partnerships.

On Monday, August 11, incoming SGA Chairman, Virginia Governor Timothy M. Kaine, will facilitate a town hall-style discussion, Setting the Southern Tone on Energy Sustainability and Climate Change. As leaders in domestic energy production, Southern governors will compare notes on initiatives they are spearheading in their own states, and begin the dialogue about what role the Southern region may play in the national debate.
