SUFFERN, N.Y. –SCS Engineers, an award winning environmental consulting and contracting firm, recently hired Eric Girven to serve clients in the Eastern United States. Eric, working out of Scranton, Pennsylvania, will provide expertise in Process Safety Management and Energy Management supporting SCS’s public and private clients with a focus on industrial refrigeration facilities.

Industrial refrigeration facilities must be operated in conformance with regulations administered by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Process Safety Management (PSM) and the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Risk Management Program (RMP). Eric will assist clients in complying with these requirements, including mechanical integrity inspections for the ammonia refrigeration system, as well as assistance with energy efficiency measures.

Process Safety Information (PSI) is one of the principal

elements in OSHA's PSM and EPA's RMP programs, and in many state-specific programs. Facilities in industrial settings are required to compile specific information about the equipment and chemicals used in their facilities. Eric combines his regulatory knowledge with the experience of running large industrial facilities where he designed and implemented energy efficiency measures for electricity, natural gas, low pressure steam (150 PSIG), water, and biogas. He has practical experience tracking, trending, reporting and budgeting for the use and cost of energy resources.

“Eric’s hands-on industrial facility experience will help SCS clients to comply with OSHA and EPA regulations, while implementing energy saving programs that will streamline operations and save money,” said Greg McCarron, SCS Engineers Vice President and New York Office Director. “He’s a great addition for the SCS team and brings specialized skills integrating well with our SCS Tracer division.”

Eric brings more than 20 years of experience in industrial refrigeration facility operations and regulatory compliance. He is licensed with the Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association (RETA) as a Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO) and is affiliated with IIAR (International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration). Eric performs a major role at RETA as: a National Board of Directors Member; the Industrial Refrigeration PSM/RMP Compliance Book Committee Chairman; the Acting Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter President; and as a Member of the Education, Marketing, Membership, and Conference Committees.

Eric earned a Certificate from the On-Site Advanced Supervisory Management Program at Pennsylvania State University, and a diploma in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration from the Universal Technical Institute.
