2013-01-18 18:57:49 - The last show to take place in Sartorial Contemporary Art space at King's Cross is a self-referential extravaganza about the Gretta Sarfaty's career. The artist revolutionizes the idea of a retrospective exhibition, a fresh new ars poetica…
The exhibition offers us a glance into the future experiencing the past. Gretta has directed her own Fellini’s ‘8 and ½’ finale.
Familia Memorabilis presents several snap-shots preserving specific moments of the artist’s personal life. It is n otherworldly experience of the photographic reality, challenging the viewer with a paradigm shift between past and present. Aesthetically powerful, they give a glimpse into the archives of the mind, which would have normally been invisible to an audience.
Wedding Pictures captures the flow of ‘real time’. This series reviews the photo album of her first wedding: each page is scanned and translated to digital format to be assembled in groups of two to create a single picture. These continually present us with experiences of the past, preserving moments of joy and frivolity, here the viewer always seems aware of the paradox of death within the
images of the artist's youth.
Alongside the exhibition there will be an interactive performance Sartorial Giveaway of a Lifetime! Get ready to be generously lavished! Gretta is cunningly announcing that during the opening selected works from ‘Sartorial Contemporary Art’ collection will be given away. Among artists whose works will be converted into free gifts you will find: Wolfgang Tillmans, Sweet Toof, Bob & Roberta Smith, Martin Sexton, Gretta, Harry Pye, Gavin Nolan, Liz Neal, Peter Lamb, Jasper Joffe, James Jessop, Rose Gibbs and Cyclops.
The exhibition will take place at Sartorial Contemporary Art space in King’s Cross.
