KARACHI,12th October - SAMAA TV in joint collaboration with the City district Government of Karachi called for taking ownership of its city and play a part in making Karachi a better place by inviting the citizens of Karachi in carrying out a cleaning and awareness campaign in the city under the campaign name of I CLEAN KARACHI.
More than hundreds of
Karachi citizens were present at the Baloch Colony Bridge, where the project was launched by cleaning the clutter created by excessive advertising messages in the form of graffiti painted all over the bridge. The citizens of Karachi protested against the lack of ownership by repainting the bridge and thereby giving the message about keeping the city clean and promote responsible citizenship.
Speaking to Mr. Amir Jahangir, Chief Executive Officer of SAMAA TV, Mr Jahangir said that the campaign was launched with the purpose of creating awareness among people about cleanliness and hygiene of their community. He said that 'Every citizen is an important part of this society and it is our responsibility to play our role in creating awareness on issues related to improving the social and economic situation of our country'.
He added that 'SAMAA TV believes in its community members and their commitment to contributing to their society, which is why we believe that this initiative will create more debate on the issues related to environment and social culture in Pakistan. He further said that, 'If each community acts with unity and focus, even small steps can make a vast difference'.
Present at the occasion, Mr. Syed Mustafa Kamal Hussain, Nazim of Karachi City appreciated SAMAA for highlighting the environmental issues and giving the platform for promoting responsible citizenship. Mr. Hussain and his team has earlier also launched its own city government initiative of enrolling volunteers to help manage the city's affairs better under the name of I OWN KARACHI. The drive behind this initiative is aimed at creating a culture of caring for the city amongst its citizens as against the current trend of complaints and lack of ownership to the city's issues.
The Campaign I Clean Karachi is a part of series planned for the rest of the cities across Pakistan in which all local communities will be empowered to make a difference in their city and take forward the initiatives of improving the environmental and social culture in Pakistan.
