2014-04-11 07:12:35 - New .rodeo and .country top-level domains to launch soon
Fans and professionals associated to rodeos and country music will soon have the chance to acquire their own unique web addresses in two new top-level domains being formally launched on April 15.
Designed to create a specific online identity for all those who are passionate about or involved in rodeos or country music, .rodeo and .country provide meaning, choice and opportunity to rodeo events across the globe, the pro rodeo community, fans of country music, country singers, country dance clubs and country lifestyle outlets.
Antony Van Couvering, the CEO of Minds + Machines, the registry operating the new .rodeo and .country domains, explained:
“People and businesses on the web want to be identified and found by terms that describe what they do,
whether it’s a commercial or private activity. We also want to be easily linked with or connected to those who share similar interests. The .rodeo and .country web address endings make that possible by sending a clear signal to people and search engines that the website behind the name is all about either rodeo or country related pursuits or music. It’s a great opportunity to get a great, clear, descriptive domain name instead of jostling for a second-best name in an overcrowded space like .com.”
How to register
For a 60 day period from April 15 , trademark holders and members of the public can simply log-on at www.mindsandmachines.com, to apply for their .rodeo and .country addresses of choice (e.g. springvillefarm.rodeo or myalbum.country). At the end of the 60 day period – known as the “Sunrise” for trademark holders, and “Landrush” for the general public – .rodeo and .country addresses will be issued, and duplicate applications for the same name will be invited to auction, with trademarks taking precedence.
Antony Van Couvering continued:
“Ahead of our formal launch, we have been genuinely heartened by the level of interest shown in these two specialist interest domains. We believe .rodeo and .country domains will be where individuals and organisations associated to each area will naturally migrate.”
There are currently:
• 285 country codes such as .uk, .fr, de
• 22 original generic top-level domains such as .com, .net and .org
• Over a 1000 new generic top-level domains will be introduced into the Internet as a result of ICANN’s gTLD program - of which over 500 will be new generic top-level domains available for public registration and around 500 will be private new top-level domains introduced by brands for their own purposes.
• According to BillBoard magazine, the music industry’s two biggest earners for 2013 were country music singers Taylor Swift ($39,699,575.60) and Kenny Chesney ($32,956,240.70). Luke Bryan ($22,142,235.98) secured eight spot.
• According to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), ProRodeo attracts 30 million fans each year.
