OHM Rock Solid Images is pleased to announce that Dr. Arthur Cheng has joined the Group as Senior Rock Physics Adviser. Arthur will assist with the continuing development of rock-physics technology within OHM Rock Solid Images and will focus on developing algorithms and mentoring and developing the Group's petrophysical staff. He will also be available to play a key technical
role in major projects undertaken for the Group's clients.
Arthur will assume a leadership role in managing the LFP Phase II industry-sponsored consortium investigating well and seismic methods for lithology and fluid prediction. In this endeavour, he will be ably assisted by our existing scientific base of personnel which includes Dr. Tury Taner, Professor Gary Mavko and Dr. Sven Treitel.
In addition to his new role with Rock Solid Images, Arthur will continue his involvement with Cambridge Geosciences, a company he founded in 2000.
Richard Cooper, President of OHM Rock Solid Images, stated, "We are delighted to be able to build on our long-term relationship with Arthur and believe this closer association will help accelerate the development and adoption of a number of exciting new rock-physics-based methods. We expect that his expertise will extend our lead in the integration of electrical and acoustic methods and advance our rock-physics knowledge to new play-types such as unconventional-gas shales."
Arthur C.H. Cheng - Research Geophysical Consultant, received a B.Sc. with Distinction in Engineering Physics from Cornell University in 1973, and a Sc.D. in Geophysics from MIT in 1978. He was one of the co-founders of the Earth Resources Laboratory at MIT in 1982, and Project Leader of the MIT Borehole Acoustics and Logging Consortium from 1982-96. In 1996 he joined Western Atlas (now Baker Atlas) as its Manager of Acoustic Science and served in various technical managerial roles. In 2000 he founded Cambridge GeoSciences, consultants in borehole geophysics and petrophysics. He has published over 80 technical papers, and co-authored three patents and two books on borehole acoustics. His research interest and expertise are in rock physics, acoustic logging, and borehole seismics.
