Roadside Assistance for the Home

Print article Print article
2013-01-11 07:35:42 - HomeSource Home Assist is often described as ‘roadside assistance but for the home’. Many motor vehicle insurance companies offer roadside assistance as standard with their policies. In the same way, home emergency services, like Home Assist, are popular in the USA and Europe. Home Assist was the first of its kind in the Australian market.

Australians catching up with global trend for home emergency services

"I am delighted to find the Home Assist service now available here in Sydney. I was a member of a similar assistance programme in London for many years and greatly valued the peace of mind it offered. Knowing that one call was all that was needed, and that the person sent had been pre-screened as to reliability and quality of service was very reassuring" said Rob, Home Assist member, NSW.

Roadside assistance provides 24/7 motor vehicle service for a number of common vehicle problems. Similarly, HomeSource Home Assist is available 24/7 but for plumbing, electrical, and locksmith problems around the home. The cost for the callout fee and the first 30 minutes

of labour is covered by HomeSource, who cover four call outs per year. It is one number to call when something goes wrong. The operator then organises, on the member’s behalf, a qualified and insured tradesperson to attend a covered event.

“Roadside assistance is generally a value-add benefit offered by companies looking to differentiate themselves from competitors. We have followed this same vein offering our service through corporate partnerships. It is already offered by Energy Australia, ANZ and American Express to their valued clients”.

“Car insurance companies these days all offer roadside assistance as a standard, it seems only natural for home and contents insurance providers to offer Home Assist,” said Pia Vogel, Joint Managing Director of HomeSource Ltd.

HomeServe is one of UK’s biggest home emergency providers, established in 1993. It has grown internationally, providing their services in the USA, France and Spain. HomeServe USA is growing by 25% each year. UK insurance companies who offer this kind of service include The AA, Zurich, Direct Line, Swinton, ARAG, and Nationwide.

HomeSource introduced the concept of home emergency assistance to the Australian market, launching in 2005, initially in Sydney NSW. Today it provides services Australia wide, and has a continually growing database of members.

“A lock out could cost $300, a blocked toilet $180, with Home Assist for just $145 pa is great value. Especially seeing as one in five homes is expected to need electrical repairs and one in four to have plumbing repairs per year,’ Ms Vogel said.
