2014-02-11 15:38:36 - Ringwood Waldorf School in Hampshire opens its doors to prospective parents

Parents looking for an education for their children that is not exam-driven will be interested to learn about one special independent school situated on the edge of Hampshire's New Forest.

The Ringwood Waldorf School, near Ringwood, opens its doors throughout the year to all parents and visitors through a series of six Introductory Mornings a year and an Open Day in May.

The Introductory Mornings are aimed at parents only and include a tour of the kindergartens and classrooms, refreshments and a talk on Steiner education with an opportunity to ask questions of teachers and current parents.

Prospective parents are warmly welcome to attend the Open Day in May with their children and enjoy the informal and relaxed atmosphere. The school's Kindergartens

and classrooms are open with teachers on hand to talk to anyone who has questions.

The Open Day includes a short talk on Waldorf education, performances from students and homemade refreshments.

School administrator, Nigel Revill said: “We welcome anyone interested in our school to come along and find out more about the unique education we provide young children and would encourage visitors to come along to any of our Introductory Mornings and Open Days. Places on the Introductory Mornings have to be booked but the Open Day is open to all.

“Many families have joined the school after attending our events, which are always joyful occasions that provide a wonderful opportunity for us to truly reflect the nature and social spirit of our school.”

The school’s education stems from the ideals of Austrian Philosopher Rudolf Steiner who wished to create a form of education that would help pupils achieve clarity of thought, sensitivity of feeling and strength of will.

Children join Kindergarten from the age of three and do not begin formal education until they are six. At 16, without sitting GCSEs, they progress to local colleges where they can begin their A Levels. The school currently has more than 240 children.
