The design of the float illustrates life in Mission Viejo and reflects the official 2009 “Hats Off To Entertainment” parade theme by highlighting community and recreational activities as entertainment in Mission Viejo. The float’s key feature is a 12-foot-deep, 20-foot-long body of water, which represents Mission Viejo’s iconic landmark, Lake Mission Viejo. The float will include members of the Mission Viejo Nadadores, who will dive into water on the float as it travels down the five-and-a-half mile Rose Parade route.

2008-10-13 22:42:36 - Youth and adult residents are sought to enter and win a chance to ride on the City's float. The float will include members of the Mission Viejo Nadadores diving into roughly 10 tons of water as the float travels down the five-and-a-half mile Rose Parade route.

Youth and adult residents have - what could be - a 'once-in-a-lifetime' opportunity to ride on the City of Mission Viejo's 2009 Rose Parade float. They could be seen by more than 40 million people nationwide and millions across the globe who will tune in to the 120th Tournament of Roses Parade on Jan.1, 2009.

The Tournament of Roses Committee selected

the City to present a flower-bedecked float as part of Mission Viejo's 20th Anniversary Celebration. The City's float entry, 'Making a Splash,' depicts life in Mission Viejo by showcasing community and recreational activities as 'entertainment.' The community float coincides with the parade's 'Hats off to Entertainment' theme.

Mission Viejo youth will be selected representing youth baseball, soccer and softball. Adult residents will be selected representing golf, tennis and a veteran's category.

The deadline to submit an entry to ride high atop the City's float is Friday, Oct. 31. For more information and to submit an entry, visit the City's Website at www.cityofmissionviejo.org. The winners will be randomly selected at the City Council's Nov. 3 meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 200 Civic Center. An informational meeting and introduction will follow on Monday, Nov. 17 for selected float riders. It will take place at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

Residents are encouraged to visit the City's blog at missionviejolife.org and signup for its E-news at www.cityofmissionviejo.org to stay apprised of float-decorating opportunities and related exciting activities leading up to the 120th Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena.
