This fall season was all about finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease as residents, family members and staff of Edgemere senior living community gathered to support efforts to end Alzheimer’s disease in this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s benefitting the Greater Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. For the fifth year in a row, Edgemere was the largest corporate sponsor raising more than $20,374 for the Alzheimer’s Association. The final donation from Edgemere will include a gift from the Senior Quality Lifestyles Corporation (SQLC) Charitable Foundation which plans to match a portion of the funds raised by residents and staff.
“2013 proved to be another great year,” said John Falldine, managing director at Edgemere. “We are thrilled to have the
distinction of largest corporate sponsor for the fifth year in a row. Being able to contribute to such a worthy cause is an honor, and until a cure is found, we will continue to do our part.”
In addition to the funds raised by residents and staff, Edgemere also made donations to the Alzheimer’s Association for various sponsorships, such as, the Greater Dallas Chapter Lecture Series and the 2013 Blondes vs. Brunettes Powder Puff football game.
To raise money, Edgemere hosted a series of events before the Walk. Some of these included a Bingo for a Cause night, a pet contest where residents could pay to vote for their favorite pet to win Edgemere Mascot, and an opportunity for staff members to pay to be able to wear jeans to work.
Edgemere’s sister communities, The Buckingham in Houston, Querencia at Barton Creek in Austin, Mirador in Corpus Christi and The Stayton at Museum Way in Fort Worth will also participate in their respective cities Walk to End Alzheimer’s events. With all five communities fundraising efforts and the match from the SQLC Charitable Foundation, SQLC will have contributed a significant amount to this year’s efforts across the state.
In 2008, SQLC founded the SQLC Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit foundation that operates to make grants to and support programs and services that advance the interests of seniors, from Alzheimer’s research to education.
