www.researchandmarkets.com - Research and Markets (www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c93071) has announced the addition of Thought Leader Insight & Analysis: Alzheimer's Disease to their offering.

This report focuses on a variety of clinical approaches and diagnostics targeting either cognition or disease progression in Alzheimer's disease. The report, #14 in the series, is based on seven interviews conducted with a cohort of national US

peer-recognized AD experts. As 2008 begins the publisher's Panelists were asked to review major developments this past year and to forecast the changes they expect to see in the Alzheimer's competitive landscape in 2008. Each Panelist offers his perspective on those agents and mechanisms that have the strongest data supporting them, and comments on those where the excitement extends beyond the clinical evidence. These include acetylcholinesterase (butyrylcholinesterase) inhibitors, NMDA, M1, 5-HT, alpha-7 nicotinic acetylcholine agonists, active and passive immunotherapy, Gamma-secretase and Beta-secretase inhibitors, insulin related mechanisms (IDE, RAGE), plasminogen activator inhibitor-1, anti-TNF, GSK3 and more. Given the size of the patient population and the lack of approved therapeutics that provide long-term disease control it is no surprise how many competitors are trying to commercialize drugs for this market. This in addition to the drugs highlighted as most interesting by the Panel the publisher offers in this report a program guide of new compounds, reflecting the many "shots on goal". The publisher does this with the caveat that just because they name them doesn't mean that they endorse them. The AD field is strewn with the bones of much hyped new chemical entities that did not stand up to closer scrutiny. But, they do provide a starting point for future Panel discussions. -0- Executive Summary Bulleted Highlights - Diagnostics - Drugs Key Findings Diagnostics / Imaging / Biomarkers - PIB (General Electric) - Stable Label (Bateman / Holtzman) - 18F-AV-1/ZK (Bayer-Schering / Avid Radiopharmaceuticals) - SA101 / SA102 (Satoris) Obituaries - Alzhemed (tramiprosate; NC758; Neurochem) - Xaprila (xaliproden); Sanofi-Aventis Cholinesterase Inhibitors - Exelon (rivastigmine; Novartis) - Razadyne ER (galantamine; J&J) - Debio 9902 SR (Debio) - NGX267; M1 Receptor Agonist (TorreyPines) NMDA Antagonists - Namenda / Axura / Ebixa (memantine; Forest / Merz / Lundbeck / Daiichi-Sankyo) - Dimebon (dimebolin; Medivation) - NP-0361 (Neuropharma / Zeltia) alpha-7 nicotinic acetylcholine agonist - ABT-089 (Abbott) - AZD-0328 (AstraZeneca) - R-4996 / MEM-63908 (Roche / Memory) - EVP-6124 (EnVivo / Bayer-Schering) Immunotherapies Passive - Gammagard (IVIG; Baxter) - Bapineuzumab (AAB-001); Elan/Wyeth - LY2062430; Lilly - PF-4360365 (RN1219; Pfizer) - AAB-002 (Elan / Wyeth) - ACU-5A5 Mab (Merck) - R-1450 (Roche / Morphosys) - ACI-01-Ab7 (AC Immune / Genentech) - BAN-2401 (Eisai / BioArctic) - Novartis Active Immunization - CAD-106; Novartis - V-950; Merck - ACC-001 (Elan / Wyeth) - Affitope AD01 (Affiris) - ACI-24 (AC Immune) - Boehringer-Ingelheim / Ablynx - PADRE (Lundbeck / Pharmexa) Gamma-Secretase Inhibitors, Gamma-Secretase Modulators - Flurizan (tarenflurbil; R-flurbiprofen; Myriad) - LY-450139 ( Lilly / Elan) - GSI-953; Wyeth - MK-0752; Merck - Schering-Plough - Elan - BMS - TorreyPines - Cellzome / J&J Beta-Secretase Inhibitors - CTS-21166; CoMentis - Preclinical BACE Programs Anti-TNF - Enbrel (etanercept; Wyeth/Amgen) Insulin Related - Avandia (rosiglitazone); GSK - TTP-488 (RAGE Inhibitor); TransTec / Pfizer - NGX-96992; TorreyPines - Insulin Degrading Enzyme (Wyeth) - Ketasyn (AC-1202; Accera) - SRT-501; NCE-1; NCE-2 (Sirtris) Tau / GSK3 Inhibitors - NP031112 (Neuropharma) - AstraZeneca Coagulation Cascade - PAI-1 Antagonist (Wyeth) Metal Chelators - PBT2; Prana Statins - Lipitor (atorvastatin; Pfizer) - Zocor (simvastatin; Merck) Hormonal - Evista (raloxifene); Lilly 5-HT / GABA - lecozotan / lecozotan SR (Wyeth)80 - PRX-03140 (Epix / GSK) - MK-0249 - 742457 (SB-742457; GSK) Other Anti-Amyloid - ELND005 (scyllo-inositol; AZD-103; Elan / Transition Therapeutics) - caprospinol (SP-233; Samaritan) Thought-Leader Discussions - Interview CNS01967 - Interview CNS01968 - Interview CNS01969 - Interview CNS01970 - Interview CNS01971 - Interview CNS01972 - Interview CNS01973 Products Mentioned: - PIB (General Electric) - Stable Label (Bateman / Holtzman) - 18F-AV-1/ZK (Bayer-Schering / Avid Radiopharmaceuticals) - SA101 / SA102 (Satoris) - Alzhemed (tramiprosate; NC758; Neurochem) - Xaprila (xaliproden; Sanofi-Aventis) - Aricept (donepezil; Eisai / Pfizer) - Exelon (rivastigmine; Novartis) - Razadyne ER (galantamine; J&J) - Debio 9902 SR (Debio) - NGX267 (TorreyPines) - Namenda / Axura / Ebixa (memantine; Forest / Merz / Lundbeck / Daiichi-Sankyo) - Dimebon (dimebolin; Medivation) - MK-0249 (Merck) - 742457 (SB-742457; GSK) - NP-0361 (Neuropharma / Zeltia) - ABT-089 (Abbott) - AZD-0328 (AstraZeneca) - R-4996 / MEM-63908 (Roche / Memory) - EVP-6124 (EnVivo / Bayer-Schering) - Gammagard (IVIG; Baxter) - bapineuzumab (AAB-001; Elan/Wyeth) - LY2062430 (Lilly) - PF-4360365 (RN1219; Pfizer) - AAB-002 (Elan / Wyeth) - ACU-5A5 Mab (Merck) - BAN-2401 (Eisai / BioArctic) - R-1450 (Roche / Morphosys) - ACI-01-Ab7 (AC Immune / Genentech) - Affitope AD01 (Affiris) - CAD-106 (Novartis) - V-950 (Merck) - ACC-001 (Elan / Wyeth) - ACI-24 (AC Immune) - Boehringer-Ingelheim / Ablynx - PADRE (Lundbeck / Pharmexa) - Flurizan (tarenflurbil; R-flurbiprofen; Myriad) - LY-450139 (Lilly / Elan) - MK-0752 (Merck) - GSI-953 (Wyeth) - Gamma-secretase (Schering-Plough Elan BMS TorreyPines Cellzome / J&J) - CTS-21166 (CoMentis) - BACE (Lilly Sunesis/Merck GSK BMS Astex/AstraZeneca Amgen) - Enbrel (etanercept; Wyeth/Amgen) - Avandia (rosiglitazone; GSK) - TTP-488 (RAGE Inhibitor; TransTec / Pfizer) - NGX-96992 (TorreyPines) - Insulin Degrading Enzyme (Wyeth) Ketasyn (AC-1202; Accera) - SRT-501; NCE-1; NCE-2 (Sirtris) - NP031112 (Neuropharma) - GSK-3 (AstraZeneca) - PAI-1 Antagonist (Wyeth) - PBT2 (Prana) - Lipitor (atorvastatin; Pfizer) - Zocor (simvastatin; Merck) - Evista (raloxifene; Lilly) - lecozotan (Wyeth) - PRX-03140 (Epix / GSK) - ELND005 (scyllo-inositol; AZD-103; Elan / Transition Therapeutics) - MK-0249 (Merck)
