- Republic Services, Inc. (NYSE: RSG) today issued the following statement in response to the unsolicited proposal from Waste Management, Inc.

"The Board of Directors of Republic Services, along with its legal and financial advisors, will carefully review the proposal received from Waste Management consistent with its fiduciary duties. Following its review, the Board will respond in due course."

As previously announced on June 23, 2008, Republic Services and Allied Waste Industries, Inc. (NYSE: AW) have signed a definitive merger agreement that firmly establishes one of the nation's leading waste and environmental services providers.
