The U.S. Forest Service announced that the Angeles National Forest has been re-opened. The Redhook California Duathlon scheduled for October 3rd at Mt Baldy will take place.
The U.S. Forest Service announced today that the Angeles National Forest is re-opened.
The Angeles National Forest which includes the Mt Baldy Ski Area has been closed since September 3rd as a result of extreme fire activity, and to protect public health and safety.
“The announcement is good news for us and all the other merchants on the mountain,” states Ron Ellingson President of Mt Baldy Ski Lifts.
“The ski lift will be open for our normal summer schedule offering scenic rides on weekends. The Top of the Notch Restaurant located at the top of the chair lift will re-open too.”
“The U.S. Forest Service announcement also means that the Redhook California Duathlon scheduled for October 3rd will definitely take place.”
“This is a
high altitude challenge as competitors will be biking and running at elevations between 6,000 and 8,000 feet.”
The duathlon will begin with a mountain bike leg that takes down from the Mt. Baldy Ski Lifts past the San Antonio Falls up a 3 mile climb to the Top of the Notch Restaurant. The race continues past Desert View around 2 reservoirs to the transition area at The Notch.
The 2 1/2-mile Run will take the challengers up Turkey Shoot, across Roller Coaster and back down to the finish line in front of The Notch.
The Redhook California Duathlon, USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned event, starts at 8 AM on October 3rd with registration opening at 6 AM.
Entry fee is $49.00 or $59.00 on day of race.
Ellingson concludes “To celebrate the re-opening we are offering two free round trip scenic ride lift tickets to friends or crews of the Redhook California Duathlon competitors.”
