Radiant Logic, the market leader for virtual directory solutions, today announced the release of the RadiantOne Virtual Directory Server (VDS) Context Edition 5.2. This new release continues Radiant Logic’s move towards more sophisticated identity integration through virtualization.
The introduction of the Global Identifier & Profile Builder addresses a key challenge of identity management: how to create a unified list of all identities and their profiles drawn from various applications, databases, and directories—without having to centralize security.
Identity and context virtualization allows enterprises with highly distributed, heterogeneous sources of identity to “manage globally and act locally,” by delivering a complete view of identity while enforcing security at the data source level. This innovation comes at a time when focusing IdM efforts outside
the enterprise is not only essential for security purposes but is also tied to enterprise growth. The move to externally-focused, high-ROI initiatives began with web access management (WAM) and federation, and has extended to SaaS and cloud computing.
“Protecting identities, information and infrastructure happens on two fronts; mitigating insider risk by controlling exactly who has access to a well-defined set of resources, while concurrently focusing outside of the perimeter to prevent evolving threats like online fraud,” said Sam Curry, Vice President, Product Management at RSA, The Security Division of EMC. “To help manage this complex task, joint customers leveraging the cutting-edge release of VDS with integrated web access management solutions from RSA will benefit from a streamlined approach to managing diverse user populations and securing their reach into a set of well-defined, valuable assets.”
VDS Context Edition is designed to address the challenges of integrating high-volume, heterogeneous identity environments, with multiple user populations (customers, partners, employees) and disparate data sources (directories, databases, web services). By providing a single unified view of customers, VDS Context Edition 5.2 enables enterprise authentication, authorization, and profile management.
“Now enterprises can manage identity globally and also act locally by enforcing security as close to the sources of service as possible,” said Michel Prompt, CEO of Radiant Logic. “By combining the best ideas from metadirectory and classical virtual directory—what we call VDS Proxy Edition—we created a virtualization solution that solves the identity integration challenges we’re facing today, while building the right foundation for all those potentially rich future applications, such as user-centric identity, IDaas, and the cloud.”
With this release, Radiant Logic has moved virtual directory technology beyond traditional “proxy-driven directory virtualization” into a data model-driven solution for complete identity integration and context management™.
“VDS Context Edition bridges the traditional gaps between the database and directory worlds by focusing not on how identities are stored, but on how they’re aggregated, synchronized, and disambiguated,” said Dieter Schuller, VP of Business Development at Radiant Logic. “By separating the protocol (LDAP) from the underlying means of storage, we create a powerful new way to view directories: as a set of services you could package and deliver, using different protocols as needed—LDAP, of course, but also SQL, as well as newer protocols such as web services.”
New Features and Functionality
The VDS Context Edition features the Global Identifier & Profile builder, a sophisticated Context Builder, and advanced caching options.
Global Identifier & Profile (GIP) Builder
The GIP Builder makes it easy to create an integrated view of all identities across heterogeneous, distributed systems, without having to centralize identity data in a single repository. RadiantOne virtualization technology dramatically simplifies the process of identity synchronization and correlation, first building a complete reference list of all identities without duplicates, then creating a complete profile for each identity.
Advanced Join Engine and Context Builder
With an innovative new join engine, the VDS Context Edition links objects across data silos, while the Context Builder exposes the semantic relationships between those objects as plain English sentences.
RadiantOne’s advanced context technology allows data from disparate systems to be connected and represented in contextually significant ways that are easily understood by both existing digital systems and humans.
Caching Options and Scalability
The advanced caching options mean the highest levels of availability and performance possible. Persistent cache is refreshed in real-time using RadiantOne’s exclusive event-driven cache refresh system.
VDS Context Edition is fully scalable and built for even the largest and most demanding of environments, thanks to built-in failover, load balancing, and replication capabilities and the included RadiantOne Access Router.
