QuickPlay Media, the premier provider of solutions that manage the business of mobile video : , today announced the findings of its latest quarterly consumption analysis. The results—aggregate usage statistics from 17 representative QuickPlay-powered services, including two which launched in the second quarter of 2009—revealed an increase in the average number of downloads per user and total number of live TV, video and audio streams consumed.

The latest findings, compiled between July 1 and September 30, 2009, showed an increase in the average number of video downloads per user, over the previous quarter. Specifically, the average downloads per user rose from 7.9 in Q2 2009 to 8.3 in Q3 2009. This growth was driven primarily by QuickPlay’s PrimeTime2Go

: TM , a premium mobile TV service featuring full episodes of TV shows from leading networks such as ABC, CBS, NBC, ESPN, MTVN and Discovery Channel.

Streamed content also continued to show a strong performance in the third quarter, with increases in the total consumption of TV and video streams and for the average length of time consumers view a stream.

During the quarter, the total number of TV and video streams viewed increased by 7.6% from Q2 2009 to Q3 2009. In addition, the overall streaming average event duration rose from just under three minutes (two minutes and 59 seconds) in Q2 2009 to three minutes and thirteen seconds in Q3 2009.

In addition, total audio streams saw a significant increase in the third quarter, largely thanks to the success of the SIRIUS XM Radio application for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch devices. Powered by QuickPlay’s OpenVideo™ platform, the application enables SIRIUS XM internet customers to enjoy more than 120 popular, commercial-free music, premier sports, news, talk, entertainment, traffic and weather channels.

The results also reflected similar content preferences to the previous quarter. The most popular video download genres were music, followed by movie previews and sports. For live TV streams, the top preferences were news, talk, kids’ entertainment, weather and sports, while video stream favorites included user-generated content, sports and news. On the audio front, the main choices for streaming genres included pop, rock and comedy.

“We continue to be pleased with the growing adoption of high-quality mobile media services,” said Wayne Purboo, president and CEO, QuickPlay Media. “As we move toward 2010, we expect to see demand for premium mobile TV services such as PrimeTime2Go continue to grow as we extend the service to additional BlackBerry smartphones and Android-powered devices.”

"Growth in consumer demand for mobile entertainment services is being fueled in large part by the availability of compelling content on media-friendly devices," said Susan Kevorkian, program director, Mobile Media and Entertainment at IDC. "Companies like QuickPlay that bring market-tested premium video services with broad and deep content libraries, as well as unobtrusive DRM and customer authentication, to key players in the mobile entertainment ecosystem will be fundamental to driving the long-term development of the mobile entertainment services market.”
