Luminati Pioneer Acrylic Display cabinets

2008-12-16 10:56:24 - Luminati have pioneered the design of acrylic display cabinets requiring no frameworks, thereby producing totally clear structures.

Ivybridge, Devon, UK, December 06, 2008 -- Display cabinets have traditionally been made from wooden frames with glass panels. This was then followed by extruded aluminium frames, again with glass panels.

The benefits of acrylic are many. It weighs significantly less than glass, it is less liable to cracking and fracture failure, it can be machined into intricate profiles, all of which makes it possible to produce one offs and bespoke cabinets at an economical cost.

This flexibility in design has enabled Luminati to produce display cabinets for a diverse range of applications as obscure as a cabinet for a polo pony skeleton to 4m x 2m high cabinet for tractor parts, medical prostheses, military guidance systems, wedding dresses ...the list goes on.

Acrylic display cabinets are often further enhanced with lighting. Acrylic and heat do not go well together so wherever possible low energy LED lamps are selected.

Steve Senior, MD of Luminati says: "The latest developments in UV bonding technology have now enabled Luminati to bond acrylic with optically clear joints. Combined with our considerable experience of designing and manufacturing display cabinets, UV bonded joints enables us to strengthen panels just where required without having to use excessively thick sections throughout. This saves weight and cost whilst retaining strength."

Luminati designers recognise that acrylic is not the only material within this ‘toolkit' and often use MDF, Formica laminates and steel where appropriate. Luminati has developed a range of joining systems enabling acrylic display cabinets to be flat packed. Not only are the benefits in easy of transport but if a panel is damaged it can merely be unbolted and a new part installed. This is made possible by the use of precision CNC machining, whereby a single panel can be cut to order.
