Clean Slate ’08: a Sweeping Success

Taxpayers across Oklahoma helped make the recent Clean Slate "08 compliance program a sweeping success"surpassing all expectations. More than $81.9 million in tax debt was recovered through the 60-day program that ended on November 14.
During the program, taxpayers who filed past due returns and paid their obligations, or made pay out plan arrangements, from taxes due prior to January 1, 2008, became eligible to have all penalties, interest and fees waived.
"We had an overwhelming response from the taxpayers to the Clean Slate "08 program as thousands of taxpayers have been able to bring their accounts current with our agency," said Paula Ross, Tax Commission spokesperson. "The revenue raised through the program will help fund various programs in the state budget."
More than 4,600 taxpayers seeking to take advantage of the program visited Tax Commission offices during the final week of the initiative and more than 870,000 calls were received by the Clean Slate "08 hotline.
"The Clean Slate "08 program required a great deal of teamwork from the employees of the Oklahoma Tax Commission," said Tony Mastin, Tax Commission Administrator. "I am proud of the effort and hard work put forth by all staff members. The program"s success is reflective of that work ethic."
