Harry Marshak, M.D., F.A.C.S., whose extensive training and experience in repairing eyelid damage has earned him numerous professional recognitions, was recently honored by the International Society of Aesthetic Surgery at its 5th World Congress, held November 15-16 in Tokyo. In addition to receiving an award, Dr. Marshak presented two papers on surgical techniques pioneered over the last 10 years at
The Morrow Institute, a multi-specialty plastic surgery group in Rancho Mirage, CA. Dr. Marshak is head of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at The Morrow Institute.
"We are so proud of Dr. Marshak and feel fortunate to have him on our team!" said David Morrow, M.D., founder and director of The Morrow Institute. "He is rapidly becoming an internationally renowned ophthalmic plastic surgeon. He is one of very few specialty plastic surgeons to have completed two fellowships, one, the prestigious Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery program of the University of Southern California and, the second, my own cosmetic surgery fellowship program under the auspices of the American Academy and American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. Dr. Marshak"s training and experience uniquely qualify him to repair damage and restore both function and beauty to the eyelids."
"Oculoplastic surgery encompasses cosmetic, corrective and reconstructive surgery of the eye," explained Dr. Marshak, who performed eye surgeries for five years before deciding to specialize in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery. "It manages and repairs problems primarily related to the tissues surrounding the eye " the eyelids, tear ducts, and eye socket. Whether as a result of Mohs surgery, for cancer of the eye, accidents or prior cosmetic surgery, we see many patients whose eyes can"t close completely or are asymmetrical, or whose lower eyelids droop. My goal in correcting problems caused by prior surgery is to restore natural shape and health to the eye. However it"s always better to get it done right the first time!"
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is another of Dr. Marshak"s areas of specialization. "As an elective, cosmetic procedure, the goal is to remove bags under the eyes and make the upper eyelids appear more youthful," he said. "Blepharoplasty may also become medically necessary when heavy eyelids interfere with vision; in these cases, insurance companies may pay for the procedure."
At the Tokyo conference, Dr. Marshak presented landmark papers published this year in the Journal of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, "Bi-planar Temple Lift for Brow Ptosis," and "Small Incision Pre-periosteal SOOF and Midface Lift for Correction of Lower Eyelid Retraction.? Dr. Marshak is a board certified ophthalmologist and a Fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
