(cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT"id=smartlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww ..), the world leader in flywheel energy storage systems, announced that it has promoted Claude Kalev to the position of Chief Technical Officer.
Kalev joined Pentadyne in June of 2002 as Vice President, Electrical Engineering. He was a co-founder of Pentadyne when the company was incorporated in 1998.
"Although he officially joined the company in 2002, Claude was one of the founders of Pentadyne back in 1998 and has been the heart and soul of the company and its technology," said Mark McGough. "This new position within the company better reflects the importance of Claude"s past, current and future contribution to our state-of-the-art products."
Kalev was also a co-founder and Vice President of Engineering at Quadradyne, a company established to provide testing services for high speed rotating machinery, state of the art magnetic bearing development, high vacuum system and molecular drag sleeve design.
Prior to joining Pentadyne, Kalev was the Vice President of Engineering at Infrared Industries, Inc. where he led the development of a compact, portable 5-gas automotive analyzer. He also developed and patented a hand-held, high-speed, 5-gas analyzer for use as an on-board diagnostic and combustion tuning instrument. He also developed a state-of-the-art, automated calibration system for the analyzers.
Prior to Infrared Industries, Inc, Kalev was Manager of Advanced Electronic Development at Capstone Turbine Corporation. He was the system engineer for Capstone"s C60 microturbine, and developed the product"s next generation of power electronics. He also developed fuel delivery and auxiliary controllers for Capstone"s C30 and C60 products.
Prior to Capstone, Kalev was Manager of Electronics Group and Flywheel Development and Testing at Rosen Motors, an innovative developer of flywheel power systems. He was directly responsible for development of the patented 5-axis magnetic bearing system and a novel position sensing method for the magnetic bearings. The intellectual property developed by Rosen Motors was later used to create the Pentadyne flywheel. Kalev also created the patented flywheel control system and its interface to major brands of uninterruptible power supply UPS systems.
Kalev is a member of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Tau Beta Pi, and Golden Key Honor Society. He earned his undergraduate degree in Electronic Engineering from the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.
