Largest Healthcare Group in Singapore Activates Eclipsys Clinical Solutions

2008-11-12 19:01:01 -

www.eclipsys.com/ - Eclipsys Corporation Robin Wrinn, 404-847-5219 Public Relations (media) robin.wrinn@eclipsys.com or Jason Cigarran, 404-847-5965 Vice President, Investor Relations investor.relations@eclipsys.com Eclipsys Corporation(R) (NASDAQ:ECLP), The Outcomes Company(R), today announced that SingHealth, the largest healthcare group in Singapore, has successfully activated Eclipsys' clinical solutions. The on-time, on-budget technology initiative sets the stage to drive enhanced medication safety processes and improved quality of care across SingHealth's three hospitals, totaling more than 3,000 beds. SingHealth's clinicians are now equipped with clinically relevant, evidence-based guidelines for ordering treatment protocols, while gaining secure access to an integrated electronic health record (EHR) to obtain the latest patient information for more timely, more informed care decisions.

In the first few hours of going live, more than 1,500 concurrent users utilized Sunrise Clinical Manager(TM) 5.0 to help provide improved care for more than 500 inpatients, 14,300 outpatients and 1,100 emergency care patients receiving treatment at SingHealth's three hospitals, nine polyclinics and three specialist outpatient clinics.

According to Dr. Low Cheng Ooi, SingHealth's Chairman Medical Board and Chief Medical Information Officer, Eclipsys' strong track record of clinical solution adoption in North America, along with its advanced technology platform, were key factors in selecting the company as their preferred technology partner. "The activation went very smoothly, and Eclipsys played a critical role as we analyzed our clinical processes to ensure that the technology would lead to improved care coordination and the measurable outcome improvements we're expecting."

SingHealth, which serves an estimated 3 million patients on an annual basis, successfully migrated 10 years of clinical data from iSoft to Eclipsys' Sunrise Clinical Manager as part of the technology activation process. Physicians at SingHealth are now placing medical orders in Eclipsys computerized physician order entry (CPOE) solution, the most widely physician-adopted CPOE system in the U.S. healthcare delivery system.

ObjectsPlus/XA(TM) Played Critical Role in Success of Activation

SingHealth also is using Eclipsys' ObjectsPlus/XA, an advanced object-based technology that is part of Sunrise Enterprise(TM) suite of solutions, to deploy custom applications to help preserve legacy workflows while driving adoption of new systems features and functions. Stated Dr. Chong Yoke Sin, SingHealth's Group Chief Information Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Integrated Health Information Systems, "ObjectsPlus/XA was critical to helping us develop an e-prescribing solution that met the unique needs of Singapore's healthcare system. This flexibility was a primary reason we selected Eclipsys and it's great how easily we were able to build custom applications and then integrate them within Sunrise Clinical Manager."

Commenting on SingHealth's successful activation, R. Andrew Eckert, Eclipsys' President and Chief Executive Officer, said, "SingHealth is a world-class institution on the leading-edge of care delivery in Asia Pacific. This is an important first step towards our mutual goal of providing a regional showcase of how clinical information solutions can help transform care delivery and improve patient-care outcomes. We also are very excited that the first phase of the activation was such a success as it is being closely watched in the region, and could prove to be a catalyst to drive new business in the region."

According to Eckert, in parallel with SingHealth going live in the Asia Pacific market, Eclipsys is engaging in a number of activities to increase its overall international presence. The company recently opened a new office in Pune, India, and appointed a vice president of Middle East Operations to spearhead business development, which includes a comprehensive recruitment effort.

"Healthcare organizations in the Middle East and Asia Pacific are extremely dynamic with exacting standards, unique requirements and a passion to be internationally recognized as leading care providers. With our modern and flexible clinical information platform and proven track record of helping large and complex healthcare organizations leverage automation to improve care delivery in North America, we are uniquely positioned to meet the needs of these organizations," added Eckert. "We're excited to begin to see growing acceptance and opportunities in multiple international markets."
