Drucker Institute to Host Two Events on Nonprofit Innovation and Effectiveness on Oct. 28 in Los Angeles

www.druckerinstitute.com/ - The Drucker Institute at Claremont Graduate University will host two events in Los Angeles on Oct. 28, 2008, focused on nonprofit innovation and effectiveness. They'll feature Karen Baker, Secretary of Service and Volunteering for the State of California, and Wendy Kopp, CEO and founder of Teach for America. Nonprofit staffers, foundation leaders and corporate executives interested in the social sector are encouraged to attend one or both events.
A conference on nonprofit effectiveness will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the California Science Center. In addition to a lunchtime keynote address by Baker, presenters will include representatives from the Drucker Institute, the Bridgespan Group, the National Human Services Assembly, and the Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership.
Later that evening, the Drucker Institute will host a gala dinner at the Music Center in downtown L.A. celebrating the winners of the 2008 Peter F. Drucker Award for Nonprofit Innovation.
Kopp will keynote the dinner, which will also feature an original documentary on this year's first-place award winner: KickStart International, a San Francisco-based organization that fights poverty in Africa by creating and selling simple tools that help poor entrepreneurs increase their income. Among its innovations is the MoneyMaker irrigation pump, which allows small-scale growers to produce high-value crops year-round and make the transition from subsistence farming to commercial agriculture.
