To Make Learning Collaborative, Heartland Centers at Saint Louis University School of Public Health Selects Meridian LMS Software

- Meridian Knowledge Solutions LLC, a provider of enterprise learning and knowledge management software, is implementing the software-as-a-service (SaaS) version of its learning management system (LMS) for the Heartland Centers at Saint Louis University School of Public Health. The Heartland Centers chose the Meridian LMS, also known as a corporate learning system, to provide preparedness training, among other types of education, for first responders and health workers in Missouri and nationwide.
The Meridian LMS replaces the university's existing training system, which lacked functions for managing training curricula and hosting online collaboration.
"We have four different leadership networks that bring people from around the country together to learn. They were using Yahoo! Groups to collaborate, but now we can give them a way to share calendars, discuss documents and training topics," said Christy McFarland, LMS Coordinator for the Heartland Centers, Saint Louis University School of Public Health. "We don't have the luxury of IT support, so having Meridian host our LMS off-site made perfect sense. Without Meridian's SaaS offering, we might have encountered firewall issues when delivering preparedness training to an array of health care workers nationwide. Clearly, those kinds of issues would've prevented us from delivering the training when and where first responders need it."
Health care workers and other interested parties can access the university's training programs via the Heartland Centers web site, which is an arm of Saint Louis University School of Public Health.
"We serve emergency workers in many rural communities, and these professionals and volunteers don't always have access to face-to-face training," added McFarland. "So we wanted to provide them training and online collaboration capabilities inexpensively via an LMS. With the Meridian LMS, new employees at local county public health agencies will be able to simply log on, register and get public heath training in minutes."
"Our SaaS offering is designed to give employers immediate access to what e-learning professionals recently ranked the easiest-to-use LMS on the market today - Meridian Global," said Roy Haythorn, vice president of Sales & Marketing for Meridian. "For organizations like Saint Louis University School of Public Health, our approach has been to provide an easy-to-implement LMS so they can carry out the important work of preparing health care workers to practice medicine."
