Moscow, July 9, 2008 The Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO together with Alpina Business Books publishing house announced today the launch of a joint publishing project and the release of first books from the SKOLKOVO business literature series. Distinguished by its innovative approach to business education, the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO devotes specific attention to publishing activity. Within its broad publishing project, the School seeks to introduce global business culture to Russian businessmen and managers, create the basis for the development of education and self-training in business management. The SKOLKOVO publishing project is also aimed at fostering original thought in the sphere of management and business education.
SKOLKOVO Dean Andrei Volkov notes in this regard: 'Today one of SKOLKOVO's fundamental goals is the creation of comprehensive conditions for the development of business education in Russia. Due to specific conditions under which business emerged in Russia, the business society developed separately from the world business culture. The launch of the SKOLKOVO publishing project and the release of the first Russian-language books written by internationally acclaimed authors is an important step forward towards the formation of the new Russian management and business culture'.
The publishing plan elaborated jointly by SKOLKOVO and Alpina Business Books includes the release of both magnum opuses of economic thought, and of outstanding modern works on management. The series has four publication lines: educational and application-oriented literature, memoirs, classical works, and books on original business approaches.
The SKOLKOVO publishing series is opened by books of world-renowned authors:
- 'Essential Writings on Management' Peter Drucker;
- 'The Culture Code: An Ingenious Way to Understand Why People Around the World Live and Buy as They Do' Clotaire Rapaille;
- 'Hostage at the Table: How Leaders Can Overcome Conflict, Influence Others, and Raise Performance' George Kohlrieser;
- 'The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World' Alan Greenspan;
- 'Inside the Economist's Mind', edited by Paul Samuelson and William Barnet).
'Our slogan for the book series released under the SKOLKOVO brand is ‘Essential Books on Business.' The phrase is not an exaggeration. Hundreds of thousands of business books are published around the world each year. However, in this variety of books, few may be called truly outstanding. They open new horizons for readers. Only these books are awarded the honor of being included in the SKOLKOVO series,' Alpina Business Books Editor in Chief Alexei Ilyin says.
This is not the first publishing project for the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO. In March 2008 the English-language edition of A. P. Prokhorov's 'The Russian Management Model: Hidden Reflections' was presented at the 3rd Russian-Singapore Business Forum. In perspective, the School plans the publication of works by the SKOLKOVO Research Center along with its own textbooks and magazine.
The Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO is a joint project by major Russian and International business leaders.
